And they require special molds and optional binders and additives as needed. Within the operating temperature range, they have small shrinkage, strong insulation properties, are lightweight andimpact-resistant. When not exposed to high -temperature combustion, they are easy to cut and process, resistant to abrasion and flaking, and resistant to erosion by most molten metals.
